Copperhead Technologies was developed by Touchdown Entertainment, Inc., a branch of Monolith Productions, which also developed game engine Lithtech. Touchdown Entertainment is headquartered in Bellevue, WA, United States and the president was Jeffrey Hutt.

Originally founded as LithTech, Inc. in February 2000 as a subsidiary of Monolith Productions, Inc. to handle the development and sales of the LithTech 3d engine that was first introduced in the 1998 game Shogo: Mobile Armor Division, the company was renamed to Touchdown Entertainment in March 2003.

On March 12 2003 it was reported that along with the development and support of engines Lithtech series, Touchdown Entertainment would develop the new game engine Copperhead Technology which, unlike Lithtech, would focus on console games and not on the PC games. Moreover, this engine would be developed for and in collaboration with Radical Entertainment. The engine was focused on the PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube and PC and was used for the development of games like Hulk and The Simpsons: Hit & Run.
