King's Quest Chapter 2: Rubble Without A Cause

General

King's Quest is an episodic video game series and new re-imagining of the classic King's Quest series. The story is presented as the elderly King Graham shares his adventures with his granddaughter Gwendolyn. The entire game is divided in 5 Chapters and one Epilogue. In the five chapters, you play as Graham, living through his life events from a young boy to an elderly king.

Some time after his victory in the Knights Tournament in Chapter 1: A Knight To Remember, Graham has become the new king after returning the lost treasures to Daventry and the death of King Edward. He is however not sure if he can live up to the task and whether or not the job is really made for him with all the proclamations and addendums. Filling the shoes of king Edward is a mighty task, even though the kingdom was in ruins when it was handed over to Graham.

Then one stormy night, Graham and the townspeople are kidnapped by goblins and taken as prisoners into their underground fortress. Graham faces his biggest challenge yet with the lives of the townspeople relying entirely on him. With a lack of food and medicine, Graham has to make hard choices about who to save and who to let down. Last time it didn't end so well... The death of Achaka at the hands of the vicious dragon remains on Graham's mind and failing his people is his greatest fear, and he cannot save them all. Gradually however, Graham begins to realize that he should not try to follow the path of King Edward, but rather forge his own path and make his own choices. Once again Graham can chose one or a combination of three different paths: the path of Bravery, Compassion and Wisdom. Depending on your choices, Graham's character develops and his choices also reflect on granddaughter Gwendolyn's character development.

Although banished from Daventry for his betrayal during the Knight's tournament, Manny's wicked tricks are the source of the abduction. Knowing that goblins are obsessed with tales, Manny wrote his own malicious story, making sure that the easily manipulated goblins would read it and motivating the goblin king to kidnap the townspeople and the young inexperienced king Graham. Clearly Manny still has his eyes set on the throne of Daventry and his mind set on revenge. During his adventure, Graham also encounters a strange goblin with human features, scolded and tortured by the other goblins, the victim of a baby swap, a nasty goblin prank. As the strange goblin discovers his true identity, Manny offers him his friendship...

The game uses a very simple interface, where you control the character and his actions with a minimum number of keys, to move the character around, control his actions or select inventory items. Unlike in chapter 1, this chapter does not contain any arcade sequences. When talking with others characters, you get to choose between a number of responses, each of which result in different responses and sometimes further consequences down the road.
