When installing the game, skip the system test. You will still be able to install.
Doesn't work in Windows?
Play the game in DOSBox instead of Windows. The Beast Within was designed for both DOS and Windows 3.1 or 9x. If you are not familiar with DOSBox, you can use the automatic DOSBox installer for the game at the Sierra Helppages.
Black lines across the screen during cutscenes
Use the no-interlace patch. It works for both the windows and DOS installation and has in fact been used to make the recordings of the GK2 videos on the Sierra Chest. Warning: if you have used the SierraHelp DOSBox installer, DO NOT use this patch, as the no-interlacing patch is already included in that one.
